Salem Abureema is one of the staff members at the Food Hygiene department in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He has been working at the University of Tripoli since 17-06-1997 and he has several publications in the field of his interest.

Careers

Salem Abureema is a graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tripoli, and he was vacant as a demonstrator at the faculty, then as a lecturer, after being dispatched for postgraduate studies in Australia and obtaining master’s and doctoral degrees in the field of milk hygiene and control. Through his scientific research in his field of specialization, he was promoted to his current degree. Held the position of Postgraduate Studies Coordinator at the Food Hygiene Department at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from 2022 to date.

Research Interests

  • Research interests have included food microbiology, especially the use of molecular and cultural methods to diagnose pathogens in food (milk and dairy products).                                                                                                                                                                                              
  • A long-term interest of mine is molecular epidemiology of staphylococcal and streptococcal infections of dairy cattle.                           
  • Another related interest is mastitis in dairy cattle caused by the environmental organism, Streptococcus uberis. This disease causes loss of milk production, with serious economic impact on the dairy industry worldwide.

Dr. Salem Farhat Abureema provides several scientific consultations to the dairy industries and livestock farms in his field of specialization.
