Abstract
This research paper examines the legal translation landscape in Libya, with a special focus on the dynamics and contextual considerations that shape this process. The study acknowledges the increased demand for legal document translation in a globalized world and the importance of accurate and culturally appropriate translations. It explores the unique challenges faced by legal translators in Libya, including discrepancies between Arabic and English versions of legal texts, uncertainty, differences in legal systems, and complex legal terminology. The study highlights the significance of legal translation as a subset of technical translation and emphasizes the need for translators to possess knowledge of both source and target legal systems. The study aims to fill this gap by examining the socio-cultural, and legal factors that influence legal translation in Libya. It also assesses the training and resources available for legal translators in the country, and reviews their adequacy and accessibility. Further, it offers understanding to the legal translation landscape in Libya, by particularly highlighting the development of specialized training programs, the establishment of professional networks and collaborations, and the improvement of terminology resources and glossaries.
