Abstract
Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) are native in Africa, and traditional beekeeping has been practiced by Africans in all parts of the continent for many thousands of years. No doubt, the introduction of removable comb hives to many countries including Libya has significantly contributed to develop beekeeping industry. However, there is little scientific informa- tion published worldwide about beekeeping history, especially in Africa. This review article aims to shed light on the current state of keeping honey bees in Libya, bee plants and honey production, and pest and diseases recorded.
