Abstract

A semi-empirical (SE) model based on a cylindrical approximation of the target energy transfer region from an individual electron was implemented by the authors in a previous work. It has been established that the use of such an approximation leads to a significant error in the values of depth-dose (DD) curve at shallow depths in the target. This significantly limits the possibilities of using this model for selecting and controlling irradiation parameters in radiation sterilization. In this paper, we use an approximation of the energy transfer region in the form of a cone. This type of approximation makes it possible to eliminate the revealed shortcomings of the previous SE model. However, in this case, the integral transformations, which make it possible to calculate DD curves for various electron incidence angles, have a singular kernel. Singularity regularization algorithms have been developed and software has been implemented for calculating DD curves at various angles of incidence of the electron beam (EB) on the target. The created SE model makes it possible to control the parameters of the process of two-sided EB irradiation during radiation sterilization.
