Abstract

This report summarizes findings from the Libya implementation research on integrating Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) into Primary Health Care (PHC) for children, adolescents, pregnant women, and new mothers, under the WHO-UNICEF Joint Programme. The research which is part of a multi-country initiative under the WHO-UNICEF Joint Programme, aimed to understand how MHPSS can be effectively delivered through primary care in Libya and explored connections with key sectors - child protection and education. Key recommendations include enacting a national mental health act to protect the rights of children, adolescents, and mothers; standardizing tools for early identification and management of mental health conditions in PHC; forming a National Multisectoral Mental Health Committee; reducing financial burdens for mental health patients; developing care models focused on child, adolescent, and reproductive health; strengthening community-based services; and conducting a detailed workforce mapping to identify gaps across relevant sectors.
