Abstract

Efficacy of McKenzie protocol on cervical radiculopathy Background: Cervical radiculopathy due to disc bulging is a common disorder affecting daily function and quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the McKenzie protocol, compared to the traditional physiotherapy program, in reducing pain intensity and neck disability index, as well as improving cervical range of motion and neck muscle strength in patients with Cervical radiculopathy. Methods: Twelve patients (aged 37–58 years) referred to the Physiotherapy Department at Ghadames General Hospital were randomly assigned into two groups: a control group receiving conventional therapy, and an experimental group receiving conventional therapy plus the McKenzie protocol. Results: The experimental group demonstrated greater improvements in muscle strength (20–57%) and ROM (19–31%), with significant reductions in pain (77%) and disability (76%), compared to smaller changes in the control group. Conclusion: The McKenzie protocol appears to be an effective intervention for cervical disc bulging with radiculopathy, Larger-scale studies are recommended to confirm these findings.
