Abstract

The petroleum systems, which have been active in the six basin in Libya. Scientifically; currently our task to investigate the Petroleum criteria in Murzuq Basin, SW Libya. A single petroleum system was active in the Murzuq Basin, comprising upper and middle Ordovician, reservoirs, which are charge by Silurian source rocks. The dominant feature of the study area is the Qarqaf Uplift, a huge broad anticlinal structure of Caledonian-Hercynian origin with an E-W trending axis[1]. This structure constitutes the northern boundary of the Murzuq Basin, which is filled by Palaeozoic and Mesozoic sediments of marine and continental origin. The Qarqaf Uplift consists essentially of Cambro-Ordovician rocks with occasional minor basement exposures and Tertiary volcanic flows or plugs.
