Abstract
Honey bees of the Arab world have been morphometrically classified into seven subspecies. From a biodiversity conservation point of view and due to the global transport of honeybees, it is important to study the genetic diversity of honeybees in their native Arabic range. According to the RFLP analysis using restriction enzyme Dra I and the partial sequence of the tRNAleu-cox2 region, we reported three different mtDNA lineages: A, O and Y, each lineage compose of a suite of haplotypes. Honeybees of African Arab countries show high biodiversity (A, O and Y) while honeybees of Asian Arab countries show only O-lineage. Expected haplotyps in non-samples country were also discussed.
