Abstract
This research study is an analytic study of the Group Work technique, i.e., approach, utilized in the field of foreign language teaching/learning, in our case English language. The aim of the study is two fold: (1) to specify the merits of GW and (2) to uncover the complexities associated with its use in the classroom. The methodology used is both descriptive and practical. The study comprises four chapters. The first introduces a general background that defines the hypothesis of study, its objective and methodology as well as its importance and limitation. Chapter two provides a review of previous works that attempted to investigate communicative teaching theory of which GW frames part. Chapter three discusses the methodology together with data gathering tool, subjects of the study and analysis of the information collected. Chapter four forms the core of this study, i.e., analysis of the questionnaire feedback and its interpretation from a pedagogical perspective. Based on the findings of the study, the conclusion is made with the ultimate goal in mind of helping learners at university departments of English to improve performance and build up good linguistic competence. Recommendations for future research with regards to GW are included.
