Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigatestudents' perceptions of self-directed learning. This is accomplished through the study aims which are:explore students' perceptions of self-directed learning SDL, and represent the importance of self-directed learning SDL.A random sample of students was selected from the Department of English at Tripoli University, Faculty of Education, Gasser ben Ghashair. Data for this study were collected by administering students' questionnaire consisting of 10 questions. The sample of the study consisted of 41students:39females and 2males. The results of this study indicated thatstudents learnon their own. The study recommended thatSelf-directed learning should be given a attention, teachers should clarifyself-directed learning techniques, andstudents should train themselves on how to use self directed learning
