Abstract

Abstract This piece of work set to investigate the potential reasons behinds the trend towards learning English as a second language by Arabic speaking people living in Hull; a city in the United Kingdom. The tendency to acquire the language was attracting the attention of many English language researchers. There was a raising demand for Arabic in habitants wanting to understand and grasp this language. Therefore, several studies were engaged in this notion. This research aims to explore the original motives beyond the Arabic people desire to learn English language. This study assumed that the motivation for those people was related to two basic stimuluses. That is some reasons are linked to academic purposes, career objective and workplace relation improving. While the second reason relays on the social needs and individual interests for long term relations across different speaking societies. These two hypotheses both tested by a survey. The data collected and analyzed respectively. There were evident findings to come with a clear understanding of what has been conducted.
