Abstract

This paper discusses the benefits of using the cogeneration system for power and cooling in the form of the combined free turbine gas turbine-absorption cycle generation and finds the variations of performance of the gas turbine with different ambient conditions ranging from 2°Cto 40°C(off-design). An energy analysis of a gas turbine cycle combined with an absorption refrigeration unit has been presented. The commercial package IPSEpro was used to model this cycle. It is a highly flexible computer method for thermodynamic power cycle calculations A thermo-economic analysis and pay back period of a combined cycle have been examined and has shown that cogeneration can be considered to be an effective way to save electric energy cost, since the primary source of energy for an absorption chillier is natural gas or waste heat, these chillers require very little electric energy.
