Abstract This project is dedicated to study buckling of plates and plate type structures using finite strip method. The study considered derivation of elastic stiffness and geometric stiffness matrices for finite strips and then assembled to produce the assembly matrices required for the determinant equation which produces the Eigen-value as buckling modes and eigenvectors for buckling modes. The computer program is produced to solve the determinant equation for several types of structures and the result when compared with the solution obtained by classical methods showed very good agreement
