Overview

Organic Chemistry Course 3 (CH353) is one of the compulsory courses for chemistry students, and the student must pass the course (CH243) and is interested in a comprehensive study of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon derivatives in terms of the functional group, bond type, acidity, nomenclature, physical and chemical properties, methods of preparation in each group, and the study of stereochemistry in detail The most important functional groups are as follows Organic halides (alkyl halides and aryl halides), carbonyl compounds:( aldehydes, ketones),Stereochemistry. Aims to identify the Functional groups and the distinction between them, as well as the study of stereochemistry of organic compounds in order to prepare the student theoretically for the practical part so that he can do research that serves the interest of the society in the research aspect, as well as preparing the student academically to benefit in the teaching side.

Intended learning outcomes

The student must get acquainted with the derivatives of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons in terms of their structure, nomenclature and interactions (i.e. their chemical activity) and comparison between them and the methods of their preparation, as well as a stereological study of organic compounds. And prepare it for the future so that it can deliver information to high school students in a smooth and correct way, and develop it for dialogue and discussion.

Teaching and learning methods

The use of typical teaching using the blackboard, giving an exercise at the end of the lesson and taking sudden oral and written exams throughout the semester, or conducting panel discussions, and mini-scientific research presented with a projector, and posters, and also the use of integrated and asynchronous e-learning, as electronic lectures were given to students in a manner of Asynchronous e-learning, sometimes using blended e-learning that combines standard and e-learning.

Methods of assessments

Several methods of evaluation are used for evaluating class work and the total score for class work is 40% distributed 30% for two written or oral midterm exams and 10% for sudden applications, assignments or mini-research and posters, and a written final exam is 60% and the total is 100%.
