The course focuses on understanding the main points of short, informal passages and differentiating main ideas and details. It also emphasizes on basic listening strategies for a variety of situations, including listening for main ideas and utilizing learned phrases for class discussion.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this course students should be able to:
· Utilize notes on a formal or academic passage to demonstrate comprehension
· Identify the main ideas and distinguish relevant supporting details of a brief formal or academic passage about general topics
· Demonstrate ability to function in controlled, highly supporting academic listening situations in English
Teaching and learning methods
The lecturer uses a variety of teaching methods. For example, the teacher gives classroom discussions, the use of collaborative learning by working in groups. The lecturer tries to make the class learner-centred by the use of different activities and tasks.
Methods of assessments
Continuous Assessment 40 marks.
Final exam: 60 marks.
