Overview

This course intends to introduce students to works of literature from all over the world. It aims to teach students how to identify and analyze figurative language and figures of speech, compare and contrast between literature from different culture and identify themes in various literary works.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this course students should be able to:

1. Provide a survey of world literature.

2. Identify different themes from a very wide diversity.

3. Develop strategies for appreciation of literary works.

4. Develop fluency and encourage reading for pleasure

Teaching and learning methods

The lecturer uses a variety of teaching methods. For example, the teacher gives classroom discussions, the use of collaborative learning by working in groups. The lecturer tries to make the class learner-centred by the use of different activities and tasks.

Methods of assessments

Midterm exam 40 marks.

Final exam: 60 marks.
