Overview

Introduction to the physical and mechanical properties of highway construction materials. Properties of building stones. Aggregate for concrete. Cement. Lime and its types. Industrial gypsum. Bricks and Tiles and their specifications. Laboratory testing of material properties according to standard specifications.

Intended learning outcomes

    Outcomes of the course:

      • Determining the engineering properties of building materials to be carried out engineering works and realizing the meanings of these properties.·

          • Apply information about the properties of building materials in a scientific and practical manner in the design and implementation of building works and facilities.
          • Identify building materials and the difference between them and know their quality for construction works, and include both building stones, aggregate, cement, lime, gypsum and bricks.
          • The student shall be able to receive material samples at the site, conduct laboratory tests on them, and conform them to the approved specifications, and prepare reports thereon.
