Overview

The course aims to provide the students fundamental skills for manipulating, creating database and representing geological data using geostatistics techniques in Geographic Information System media, The basic softwares are Excel, Surfer, Starter, Rock ware.

Intended learning outcomes

Outcomes of the course:

By passing this course, the student is assumed to be familiar with the following practical and professional skills:

1. The student should be able to use computer programs to collect and store geological data and information, as well as be able to use the GPS device to transfer data to maps and satellite images.

2. That the student be able to use the Internet and the e-mail service to obtain and exchange various geological information, and to use the Excel electronic spreadsheet program to graphically represent the geological information in the form of curves or other graphic forms.

3. The student should use the Surfer program to convert paper maps into digital or vice versa and locate geological phenomena and wells according to actual coordinates and draw contour maps

4. The student should use the Rockwork program in drawing triangular shapes for the results of chemical analyzes of water and rocks, drawing geological sections, stratigraphic sequence of rock formations, and representation of underground reservoirs.

5. The student should be able to understand the importance of Geographic Information System as a tool to solve problems in geological engineering department
