GEOE 589 : Principles of Groundwater Modeling

Overview

Introduction to groundwater models, finite difference ( steady state ), finite difference (Transient flow), solute transport, and case studies by applying mathematical models using real data.

  • Laboratory consists of Use of various modeling packages-MODFLOW.

Intended learning outcomes

Outcomes of the course

1- application of different types of models in hydrology, including model calibration, validation and uncertainty.

2- Solve groundwater flow equations analytically and numerically.

3- How a real-life hydrogeological problem can be conceptualized and approximated by a numerical model

4- How to solve for the problem using standard numerical codes (MODFLOW).

5- Interpret, analyse and understand the model outputs.

Simulate contaminant transport in groundwater.
