Overview

This course (research project) represents the culmination of studies for a Bachelor of Science degree in geophysics. Provides the opportunity to apply and extend material learned throughout the programme. The course spans a variety of topics, including theoretical, simulated and experimental studies. The main objective of the project is to enhance the student's scientific background and develop his practical skills, but not to obtain new scientific results. It includes the following:Propose, design and implement a scientific approach to study a scientific problem, how to write the results and the final report, and discuss the project.

Intended learning outcomes

1- Understanding and developing a new scientific concept to solve and overcome a real physical problem.2- Carrying out and completing the work described and finding solutions to a specific scientific problem.3- Organizing research including: logistics, recording, archiving, numerical analysis, data presentation, interpretation of results and presenting them in the form of a research project, communicating technical information in writing and orally to the scientific community.4- Helping students to acquire scientific inclinations, such as: the tendency to make some scientific models, the tendency to scientific reading, and to follow up on what is published recently on scientific progress.

Teaching and learning methods

• Lectures and discussions•training

Methods of assessments

1- Project (individual / group) and report 30%2- The second report written by the supervisor on the progress of the student's project. 30%3- Oral presentation (discussion with the exam committee) 40%
