This course is a helpful guide to EFL students, and Translation students, in particular. It attempts to acquaint them with different structures such as adjective Clauses & participial Phrases, and Noun Clauses & Gerund Phrases. It also gives focus on the relationship between different structures such as between Adjective Clauses and Participial Phrases, Noun Clauses & Gerund Phrases, and how they function and what meaning they carry. It refers to the issue of punctuation, in particular the use and absence of commas in Adjective Clauses and Participial Phrases, and how this affects strongly the meaning carried by such structures.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this course, students should:
· Have learned how to construct complex sentences using such clauses and phrases.
· Be able to analyze sentences with such structures.
· Be able to differentiate between meanings carried by almost similar structures such as restrictive and non-restrictive adjective clauses where in some cases the difference is only the use of commas.
Be able to construct different types of wishes using noun clauses.Teaching and learning methods
The interactive teaching method is used as the instructor is deliberately encouraging the students to interact by posing a number of questions before and during explaining the lesson.
The students are also engaged in analyzing sentences and solving the exercises in the book. In some cases and to trigger their thinking, they are asked for the Arabic meaning of specific sentences, especially those that too similar in structure, and the only difference is in the use and absence of commas.
Methods of assessments
Total of 100 Grades should be divided as follows:
· 40% Midterm Exam
· 60% Final Exam
