Celebration of Libyan Universities' Inclusion in QS and THE Rankings at the University of Tripoli
A celebration was held on Tuesday morning at the University of Tripoli, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to mark the inclusion of eleven Libyan universities in the QS Arab University Rankings, and the entry of the University of Tripoli into both the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2026.
The event was attended by H.E. Dr. Omran Al-Qeeb, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, who delivered a speech expressing his pride in this national achievement, which reflects the continuous efforts of Libyan universities to enhance their academic and research performance. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting institutional development and quality initiatives aimed at strengthening the international standing of Libyan universities.
The ceremony was attended by several university presidents whose institutions have entered the international rankings, along with other university leaders, deans, ministry officials, and the Chair of the National Committee for Enhancing International Competitiveness.
Dr. Khaled Oun delivered a speech emphasizing the strategic importance of this accomplishment as a step forward in elevating higher education in Libya, noting that this success is the result of collective and coordinated institutional efforts.
Dr. Abdulsalam Nwesri presented a visual presentation showcasing the journey of the University of Tripoli toward global rankings, highlighting the process that began in 2017 when the university was not yet listed, and how it gradua advanced to be included in both the QS and THE rankings. This experience, he noted, serves as a model for other Libyan universities aspiring to achieve international recognition.
The celebration concluded with a group photo of the Minister and the presidents of the Libyan universities that have entered the global rankings — a symbolic moment reflecting academic unity and shared ambition to elevate the standing of higher education in Libya on the regional and global stages.
