ملخص

This study aims to examine the relationship between customs policy, represented by customs tariffs (LNCR), and imports (LNIM) in the Libyan economy during the period 1966–2022, using the ARDL methodology. The findings indicate a long-term inverse relationship, where a 1% increase in customs tariffs leads to approximately a 1.8% decrease in imports. Additionally, a very weak short-term relationship was observed, with only 0.004% of short-term errors being corrected within one year. Moreover, the structural shock in 2010 had a statistically significant negative impact on imports, whereas the shock in 2011 showed no significant short-term effect. Finally, the study reveals a one-way causal relationship from customs policy to imports in the long term Keywords: Customs tariffs, imports, ARDL model, Granger causality.
