ملخص

This study aims to present the available resource potentials of agricultural development in Bani Walid region and the reality of agricultural production, both plant and animal, through existing agricultural projects, whether they are affiliated to the public sector or the private sector. It also sheds light on agricultural investment opportunities by focusing on the most important agricultural activities that have characterized the study area during the past three decades. The study showed that the number of farmers was estimated at 6.38% of the population of the region, and about 38.3% of the number of families in the study area depend on agricultural activity as a main or secondary source of work and income. During the last decade, agriculture in the region depends on the expansion of many agricultural activities, the most important of which are olive and vegetable crops such as melon and cucurbits, barley and alfalfa fodder crops, in addition to raising livestock (sheep and camels). Agriculture in the valleys of the study area depends on the rain fed and irrigated systems, in addition to the traditional cultivation of barley crops in the valleys of the region and olives in the Blad valley, which depends on the rates of rainfall and seasonal torrents. The study recommended formulating productive and marketing economic policies that take into account the preservation of available agricultural resources, diversification in the cultivation of appropriate crops, and the development of strategies to highlight the comparative and competitive advantage of some crops, which excel in the study area. It also recommended paying attention to agricultural extension and cooperation programs in the region. Keywords: Agricultural Development, Economies of Libyan regions, Agricultural Investment Opportunities, Bani Walid Region.
