Abstract

Abstract Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic condition with chronically elevated blood glucosedue to insulin deficiency. Type 1, type 2 (T2DM), and gestational diabetes are the main types. Glycatedhemoglobin (HbA1c) targets are below 7% (normal range 4-6%). Measurements over 9% indicate un-controlled diabetes. Aim of the Work: The current study aimed to assess the prevalence of tooth loss among Libyan T2DMpatients, including those with both controlled and uncontrolled glycemic status. Materials and Methods: This study analyzed data from 442 Libyan T2DM patients and examined thenumber of missing teeth in each patient ’ s mouth. Variables including age, gender, and glycemic controlwere assessed using IBM SPSS v21. Result: A study of 442 Libyan diabetic patients (DPs) found that 73.5% had missing teeth, with higherrates in males and the 50-64 age group (54.1%, P < 0.001). Glycemic control was poor for most, with75.8% having uncontrolled levels. Conclusion: Libyan men aged 50-64 with T2DM experience more tooth loss, particularly if their dia-betes is uncontrolled.
