Abstract
The study aimed to determine the effect of multi coloured scrub suits on the provision of quality care to paediatric patients. Specifically, this study answered the following questions: 1) What is the paediatric patients’ perception of nurses wearing traditional white uniform? 2) What are the parents of paediatric patients’ perception of nurses wearing traditional white uniform, in terms of: Role Performance, Ability to be reassuring, Ability not to frighten the children, Ability to be fun, Ability to communicate well with children? 3) What is the paediatric patients’ perception of nurses wearing multi coloured scrub suits? 4) What are the parents of paediatric patients’ perception of nurses wearing multi coloured scrub suits, in terms of: Role Performance, Ability to be reassuring, Ability not to frighten the children, Ability to be fun, Ability to communicate well with children? 5) Based on the results of the study, what measures could be formulated for continuous enhancement of providing quality patient care? The findings that the researcher was able to extract from the study were: 1) eighty percent (80%) of the paediatric patient’s have positive perception on nurses wearing traditional uniform while twenty percent (20%) have negative perception. 2) Most of the parents of Paediatric Patients Perception of Nurses Wearing Traditional White Uniform are good, however, the indicator of role performance and ability to be reassuring to patients have a verbal interpretation of fair. 3) All or 100% of the paediatric patients have a positive perception on nurses wearing the multi coloured scrub suits 4) the Parents of Paediatric Patients have a very good perception of Nurses Wearing Multi Coloured Scrub suits and the indicator of role performance and ability to be reassuring to patients have a verbal interpretation of fair. Based on these findings, the researcher was able to conclude that the kind of dress/clothing that the nurse wears during duty formed part of the environment and therefore has a great impact in provision of quality of care. This could be depicted from the results of the study where the perception of paediatric patient’s rose from 2.55 or fair to 3.07 or good after wearing the multi coloured scrub suits.
