Abstract
The Libyan Birds book is the result of painstaking work for several years. The idea began in 2005 and after years of field and office work to collect recent information about birds in Libya. Then concrete work began in 2012. This book came into existence in April 2016 after cooperation between local and international specialists in Ornithology (France, Germany, Tunisia and Libya). The authors are from Libya. Two of the faculty members are from the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli, and the third is from the Public Authority for the Environment, a graduate from the same department. This book was issued in both English and French. It is an enumeration of Libyan birds with an overview of each species in terms of its presence and status in terms of migration, residence or nesting, its distribution and the places from which it migrates. The book includes 350 species of birds, 100 of which breed in Libya. The book provides an overview of the Libyan environment and its divisions, most of which are desert regions and the environmental diversity it contains, as well as information about Libya's geography and prevailing climate. This book also contains a comprehensive list of references on Libyan birds and the habitats they frequent. The logo of the Libyan Society of Birds, the logo of the General Authority for the Environment, and the logo of the University of Tripoli have been added to this book. Since the publication of the book, it has been used as a modern reference by students of graduation projects in the Department of Zoology as well as master's students from various universities in research related to the study of birds and biodiversity in Libya. The book was reviewed by Sir Nigel Redman, ornithologist from the United Kingdom, author of several bird books, and editor of the African Bird Club.
