Overview

This course aims to identify the nature of science (chemistry) and the concept of science as a subject and method. Identifying the most important approaches and methods of teaching science in general and chemistry in particular, and identifying the goals of teaching science and how to develop them.

Intended learning outcomes

The student becomes able to distinguish between methods of teaching science: such as solving problems and discussion, defining the method and the foundations on which it is based, its types - if any - its steps and applied examples on it, the role of the teacher and the learner, its positives and negatives, and ways and means to improve it. In addition of the educational activities in teaching science: such as the laboratory, scientific presentations, field trips and visits.

Teaching and learning methods

Scientific lectures - collecting information and research papers - practical application and practicing the main teaching skills (planning - implementation - evaluation)

Methods of assessments

First written midterm exam (third week - 15%), second written midterm exam in the ninth week, 15%, Tests + simple research - practical application of one of the methods of teaching chemistry 10% - final exam 60%
