Overview

This course:

  • Describe the basic concepts of PHC including health education, maternal & child health care, school health, mental health أ1 and health care of adolescent, elderly, and disabled patients. Describe the distribution, causes, and methods of transmission and measures of prevention and control for important endemic infectious diseases including the standard precautions.
  • Discuss principles of non-communicable diseases, road traffic injuries, nutritional, occupational & environmental health- related problems including prevention and early diagnosis measures. Acquired knowledge in immunization, cold chain, national immunization program and global health. أ
  • Describe the counseling and consultation methods appropriate for primary health care sitting. أ
  • Demonstrate the red flags for different clinical conditions during family medicine practice.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes to practice the basic principles of prevention and management of common community health issues locally and globally.
  • Acquire knowledge of occupational and environmental health risks, related diseases and preventive measures.
  • Recognize approaches in a primary health care setting and apply international recommendations and ethical principles in clinical practice.
  • Identifying the most important infectious diseases in Libya.
  • Adopt and apply a healthy lifestyle & sound behaviors to become role models for the individuals, families, and communities they will serve in the future.
