This course is intended to develop students' academic reading
strategies as well as their cultural awareness. It designed to help fourth semester students read ,summarize,
describe compare, predict and evaluate
the given text. It also gives the chance to do intensive and extensive readings.
Moreover, the students learn some idiomatic expression; distinguish facts from
opinions, how to recognize analogies, and how to follow a story line. Throughout the
course, the students will be provided with clear guidance, positive feedback,
and authentic texts to read about.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this course students should be able to:
1. Make students expose to a variety of text types and genres to help them develop more effective reading skills.
2. Sharpen students’ reading, vocabulary-building, and language analysis skills.
3. Make students engage in discussions to consider the issues raised by the passages.
4.Make students develop their writing skills.
Teaching and learning methods
The lecturer uses a variety of teaching methods. For example, the teacher gives classroom discussions, the use of collaborative learning by working in groups. The lecturer tries to make the class learner-centred by the use of different activities and tasks.
Methods of assessments
First mid-term exam: fifteen marks (15) marks.
Second mid- term exam: twenty-five (25) marks.
Final examination: sixty (60) marks
