Psychology of Play

The concept of play, features of play, functions of play, characteristics of play, foundations and classifications of play and factors influencing it, value of play in children's lives, play and related concepts, developmental stages of play, theories explaining children's play, preparatory theory, psychoanalytic theory, Piaget's theory of play, Socio-cultural theory, Jerome Bruner's theory of play, Ecological theory of the American scientist Bronfenbrenner, play and learning, educational games and their role in learning, the relationship of play and creativity, types of practical games for children, popular play, play therapy, foundations for planning and building the play curriculum, identifying methods Develop concepts and skills through play.

Intended learning outcomes

Students will be able to:

1. Know the concept, features, functions and characteristics of play.

2. Explain the foundations of play, its classifications, and the factors influencing it, with a focus on the value of play in children's lives.

3. Enumerate the developmental stages of play and the theories that explain children's play.

4. Show the relationship of playing with learning and creativity and the role of educational games in learning.

5. Eexplain to the student the basics of planning and building the play curriculum, and ways to develop concepts, skills, and therapy through play

6. Compare the concept, features, functions and characteristics of play

7. Discusses the foundations of play, its classifications, and the factors affecting it

8. Review the developmental stages of play and the theories explaining children's play.

9. Analyzes the relationship between play, learning and creativity, and the role of educational games in learning.

10. Deduces the foundations for planning and building the play curriculum, and ways to develop concepts, skills, and therapy through play

11. Write an electronic article dealing with the concept, features, functions and characteristics of play

12. Analyzes, using presentation slides, the foundations of play, its classifications, and the factors influencing it

13. Design a visual display showing the developmental stages of play and the viewpoint of the socio-cultural theory "Vygotsky" in play.

14. Design a visual presentation for the use of educational games in learning.

15. Determine, through research, the foundations for planning and building the play curriculum. And methods of developing concepts, skills and treatment through play.

Methods of assessments

The assessment of students in this course is distributed as follows:

(Semester 40% and final 60%)

Separation work: (40 degrees) divided between:

First written test of objective or short essay style tests (15 marks)

Second written test of objective or short essay style (15 marks)

Scientific activities (e.g. writing a report or making a presentation) (10 marks)

Final: Written exam (60 marks)
