EPSY 222 : Learning Difficulties

Overview

Identify the concept of learning difficulties, its historical development. Concepts associated with it. Criteria for diagnosing learning difficulties. Causes of learning difficulties. Characteristics of people with learning disabilities, theoretical models explaining them (cognitive model, behavioral model, basic psychological operations model, ... etc). Identify the classifications of developmental learning difficulties (attention, perception, memory, thinking, oral language). Academic learning difficulties (reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic).

Intended learning outcomes

The student must be able to:

1. The student should explain the concept of learning difficulties, its historical development, classifications, causes, characteristics, and the relationship between its classifications.

2. The student should explain the concept of selective attention to people with learning disabilities and the relationship between memory and learning difficulties

3. The student should explain in detail memory standards, methods of implementation, the most important strategies for treating them for people with learning difficulties, concept formation, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking.

4. The student should explain the steps and strategies for solving problems for people with learning disabilities

5. The student should explain what is meant by the criteria for diagnosing learning difficulties and diagnosing treatment for oral language disorders for people with learning difficulties

6. The student should speak academic learning difficulties (reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic).

7. The student should discuss the concept of learning difficulties, its historical development, classifications, causes, characteristics and the relationship between its classifications.

8. The student should analyze the concept of selective attention for people with learning difficulties and the relationship between memory and learning difficulties

9. The student should analyze memory measures, methods of implementation, strategies for treating them for people with learning disabilities, concept formation, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking.

10. The student should conclude the steps and strategies for solving problems for people with learning disabilities

11. The student should review the criteria for diagnosing learning difficulties and diagnosing treatment for oral language disorders for people with learning difficulties

12. The student should discuss the types of academic learning difficulties (reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic)

13. The student should design a visual presentation in which he explains the concept of learning difficulties, its historical development, classifications, causes, characteristics, and the relationship between its classifications.

14. To explain the concept of selective attention for people with learning disabilities and the relationship between memory and learning difficulties using the projector.

15. The student should design a printed worksheet in which he mentions memory measures, methods of implementation and treatment strategies for people with learning disabilities

16. The student should design a worksheet in which he mentions the steps and strategies for solving problems for people with learning disabilities

17. The student should clarify the criteria for diagnosing learning difficulties and diagnosing treatment for oral language disorders for people with learning difficulties

18. The student analyzes through a visual presentation the types of academic learning difficulties (reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic)

19. Respects the opinions of others and has a team spirit

20. Uses oral and written communication skills

21. The student should be able to operate and use the computer effectively

22. Ability and competence for self-learning

23. Uses creative, critical thinking and problem solving

Teaching and learning methods

Methods of assessments

The assessment of students in this course is distributed as follows:

(Semester 40% and final 60%)

Separation work: (40 degrees) divided between:

First written test of objective or short essay style tests (15 marks)

Second written test of objective or short essay style (15 marks)

Scientific activities (e.g. writing a report or making a presentation) (10 marks)

Final: Written exam (60 marks)
