Overview

This course introduces some of the major concepts in translation theory and introduces the students to major concepts in translation theory and shows how to apply them in translation practice. The course focuses on the concepts of translation in general and the developments of translation theories in specific. It introduces students to the approaches, strategies, and studies and views of the translation scholars. Students will be encouraged critical thinking on language use and translation, and will develop their understanding of the factors which impact on the discipline - such as style, text type, idiomatic language, and cultural differences.

Intended learning outcomes

Understanding translation and interpretation theories.

Identify the outputs of translation theories and apply them to enable the translation process from English to Arabic and vice versa.

Evaluation of errors in translation by employing the skills acquired during his/ her studies.
