Overview

The course intended to improve the level of students about Biosecurity in the field and laboratory to control an outbreak of poultry disease. The course aims to improve the abilities of students to select suspected diseased cases to induce Necropsy and differentiate between normal and abnormal features. The courses explain laboratory sampling from the field. General knowledge of laboratory tools used for diagnosis of disease.

Intended learning outcomes

A. Knowledge & understand

1. The student recognizes the methods of handling disease outbreaks in protected poultry farms, the environment, and customers.

2. The student understands the methods of disease investigation and Necropsy techniques.

3. The student is capable of collecting field samples for laboratory diagnosis.

4. The student recognizes different laboratory methods for the diagnosis of disease.

B. Mental skills (Intellectual capacity)

1. The student can induce good emergency management planning to control outbreaks of disease.

2. The student is able to choose the suspected diseased cases and induce Necropsy and differentiation between normal and abnormal features.

3. The student is capable to select a useful sample for laboratory diagnosis.

4. The student is able to differentiate between laboratory methods for the diagnosis of diseases.

C. (Practical & professional skills)

1. The student is able to design different Biosecurity planning management depending on poultry farm infection level and farm location.

2. The student is able to induce field Necropsy.

3. The student is able to take laboratory samples.

4. The student is able to use differentiated laboratory methods to diagnose diseases.

D. Generic and transferable skills

1. The student is able to write a Biosecurity report about the local infectious and/or contagious diseases to animal authorities, stockholders, and owners.

2. The student is able to eliminate dead birds under the sanitizing condition.

3. The student is able to control the contamination in the laboratory.

4. The student is able to select laboratory methods to diagnose diseases.
