Overview

Know the environments in which fauna live .

Understanding the influence of factors on planktonic distribution geographically and in its environment (Water column) .

Learn about plankton, its types, methods of collection, and its importance.

Determine the relationship between the nature of plankton and the environment that surrounds it.

Intended learning outcomes

A.1

That the student be familiar with the evidence in which plankton live of all kinds and be able to description and classification .

A.2

That the student explain the most important factors (temperature and light) that affect the distribution of plankton in the water column.

A.3

That the student understand the importance of plankton in the food chain and its impact on many elements such as carbon, phosphorus, oxygen and nitrogen.

A.4

That the student recognizes the types of plankton present in Libya, the dominant ones in particular, and their relationship to the red tide that occurs in their environment, and that the student describes the nature of the plankton and its relationship to the surrounding environment .

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures

Discussion sessions about any problem caused by plankton (especially) linked to the time of giving the material.

Field visits to centers concerned with the study of human beings, such as the Research and Marine Biology Center in Tajoura .

Collecting information about some international trips organized by some competent authorities .
