influencing their distribution. The ecological, economic and social importance
of forests. International forestry “degradation and deforestation and its
impacts. Plantation forest. Windbreaks and shelterbelts. Forest nursery
technology. Seed technology. Silvicultures. Tree growth. General, apparent and physical
characteristics of wood. Utilization of woods and its production. Principles of
forest mensuration. Determination of the economic value of trees. Principles of
forest dendrology andIdentifying the most important trees in the local
environment.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of the course the student will be able to
§ Mentions the concept of
forest, its origin, types and distribution, as well as the most important
characteristics of forests in Libya and its most important trees.
§ Clarify the factors
that determine the importance of woody trees, controlling their spread, the
ecological, economic and social services of forests, and the causes and impact
of forest degradation and deforestation.
§ Explains the principles
of establishing plantation forests, windbreaks, and nurseries,

physiology of growth, the general and apparent characteristics of wood.
§ Explain the methods of
measuring the trees volume and evaluating the economic value of urban trees.
