NE380 : Nuclear Lab I

Overview

  1. Gas detectors (Geiger counter): Operating characteristics of GM tube. Dead time measurement. Counting statistics using GM tube, determination of absorption coefficients in materials using GM tube, inverse square law.

  2. 2. Operation characteristics of spectroscopy electronics using a pulser, and an oscilloscope.

  3. 3. Gamma-spectroscopy using NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors, SCA, and MCA. Determination of mass absorption coefficient for gamma rays in lead and steel.
