Overview

The history of oil and gas production in offshore. Main offshore fields around the world. Offshore Geotechnical Engineering. Differences between onshore and offshore Geotechnical Engineering. Oil platforms. Types of platforms: Fixed platform, Semi-submersible platform, Tension-leg platform, Spar platform, Compliant towers. Offshore drilling, Well completion, Perforating & Stimulating, Pressure Vessel, Oil & Gas separation. Submarine pipeline, Route selection, Physical factors, Pipeline characteristics. Pipeline construction, Pull/tow, S/lay system, J/lay system, Reel lay system, Seismic Exploration, Offshore environment, Case study: Abouri field.

Intended learning outcomes

The intended educational outcomes from studying the course By the end of the 12th week, the student should be able to: • The student will be familiar with the types of offshore platforms for the production of oil and gas • The student should describe the systems and devices of offshore platforms for the production of oil and gas • The student will be familiar with the methods used to complete oil and gas wells in the marine environment • The student should explain in detail how the process of producing and processing oil and gas takes place in the marine environment • The student should know the risks related to oil and gas production processes and their impact on the marine environment and how to avoid them • That the student solve the mathematical operations related to the completion of oil and gas wells in the marine environment • That the student be able to perform calculations related to the design of oil and gas production systems • The student should be able to find the best ways to handle and transport oil and gas in an economical and safe manner With regard to the acquisition of skills, the student who passed this course must have developed his communication abilities, writing (written exam), interpersonal communication (working in groups and making an oral presentation), and problem-solving in ..

Methods of assessments

Evaluation strategy (evaluation method, tools, weights) The evaluation strategy for the student in this course consists of four elements: (distribution of the subject teacher) ● partial exam (written), of 30 degrees ● Homework in groups (mini research presentation, or report...............), out of 10 marks ● Panel discussions and case studies in groups (5 case studies), of 10 degrees ● Final exam (written), out of 50 marks.
