Overview

Insect pests, their origin and found, distribution, factors that increase the pest, type of pests, methods that used to solve the problems caused by them, classification, description and life cycle of important pests of field crops and stored products. Primary and secondary pests affecting cereal grains, legumes, dates and their products in stores, as well as methods of identifying insect infestations in stored grain and its products, and methods of control used.

(Laboratory projects)

Practical: Field visits, collection and identification of important pests and their natural enemies; detection and estimation of infestation and losses in different crops.

Intended learning outcomes

The student acquires knowledge about the pests which infest grain and stored food products. Understand the taxonomy of economic insects, their hosts, life cycles and reduce their harm. Identification of pests which infest some field crops and the best method of control crop management.

Teaching and learning methods

Theoretical lectures and practical sessions.

Field visits to silos for storing grain, collection of samples and identification of important stored grain insects in the laboratory.

Theoretical and practical tests.

Collection of samples and identification of important insect-pests in the laboratory. In addition, use the power point to make a scientific presentation about specific stored insects.
