Overview

The sheep and goat production course shows the importance of sheep and goats and the extent of their contribution to the agricultural production process, and explains their distribution and spread in different regions of the world. It also deals in detail with the good management of sheep and goats, ways to raise reproductive efficiency and reproduction, and provides modern information on sheep and goat feeding. It also enables the student to identify methods of breeding and genetic improvement and ways to improve the productivity of the most important products (meat, milk, wool) and explains the importance of health care for sheep and goats and how to control diseases.

Intended learning outcomes

Bypass successfully this course, the student should be able to:

a. Knowledge & understand:

  • Learn about the contribution of sheep and goats to agricultural production.
  • Learn about sheep and goats breeds and the geographical distribution globally and locally.
  • Define the role of management, genetic improvement and reproductive efficiency in the development of sheep and goat farms.
  • Enumerate the methods and methods of feeding sheep and goats and their various products.
  • Identify the most important diseases affecting sheep and goats.

b. Mental skills:

      • Demonstrate the importance of raising sheep and goats as a means of increasing the supply of animal protein.
      • Classify Sheep and goats according to morphology, geographical distribution, and race.
      • Compare the appropriate methods of genetic improvement, increasing reproductive efficiency and intensifying production.
      • Infer ways to improve animal nutrition and the most important products obtained.
      • Discover different symptoms and appropriate treatments

          • Use general concepts about sheep and goat farming to raise awareness of its importance in achieving food security.
          • Propose the most suitable breeds that achieve high economic returns in local conditions with the use of modern technologies to improve performance and raise productivity in sheep and goats.
          • Develop a scheme for genetic improvement programs for sheep and goats.
          • Apply a program of feeding and fodder for sheep and goats.
          • Design a general program for the prevention and treatment of diseases affecting sheep and goats.
