Overview

Special Studies is the student's graduation project, and the student can enroll in a Special Studies course after completing 105 credits. The graduation project is completed by conducting applied research or a new library study.The Special Studies course describes the protocol used in selecting the research topic and its hypotheses, and the goals to be achieved in order to reach the desired results. During this course, the student will acquire several skills, including, but not limited to, how to collect different data sources, the experiment to be designed, and the selection of research methods. Also, through this course, the student learns how to analyze and interpret the results of the research in a way that serves the hypotheses and objectives of the research.

Intended learning outcomes

Bypass successfully this course, the student should be able to:

a. Knowledge and understanding:

  • Learn the methods of scientific research and knowledge acquisition.
  • Learn how to deal with real problems.
  • Learn about the different types of approaches and how to collect research information.
  • Learn how to rely on himself in collecting information from reliable sources.
  • Understand how to quote science from scientific sources and how to formulate it in his own style.

b. Mental skills:

  • Learn what scientific research is and derive scientific facts.
  • Learn how to search for the specialization he desires and the connection of the research point to it.
  • Acquire the skill of formulating hypotheses and testing their validity.
  • Use libraries and information centers correctly to access the information required for research.
  • Learn about analysis methods (critical analysis supported by evidence and evidence) or statistical analysis.

c. Scientific and professional skills:

  • Use scientific experience in choosing the title of the research.
  • Understand the purpose, importance and hypotheses of the research.
  • Use different data sources (books - scientific papers - reports - field data).
  • Determine the two variables of the hypothesis (the dependent variable and the independent variable) according to the nature and purpose of the research.
  • Acquire the skill of the art of writing and learns the style of recitation and presentation.

d. Generic and transferable skills:

  • Adhere to work ethics.
  • Adhere to the rules of the college and the department.
  • Communicate with others within a team work team.
  • Deal with computers and modern electronic programs.
  • Solve the problems facing him in cooperation with others.

Teaching and learning methods

Learn and teaching methods:

    • Communication with the supervisor during the research period.
    • Communication with the research evaluation committee during the research evaluation to make modifications to the thesis before presenting it for the final discussion.

    Methods of assessments

    Assessment for private studies, which includes applied research or library research, is as follows:

    • The assessment committee for the research, which includes the supervisor and two members of the department (40%).
    • The supervisor (60%).

    This program is followed in applied colleges such as the College of Agriculture in the USA, European and Arab universities.
