Overview

This course is the first clinical course designed to expose students to nursing as a field of practice. Through providing students with the laboratory guided experiences, they are expected to perform and master certain psychomotor skills of Basic Nursing Procedures like vital signs, nutrition, oxygenation, elimination, infection control, medication and charting and documentation. These basic introductory skills are presented according to the functional health patterns and through the application of the nursing process.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1. Identifies the general purpose of demonstrating each procedure while Preparing relevant equipment for each procedure.

2. Correlates the concept to the procedures

Mental skills:

1. Explain correctly the nursing process and the different procedures involved.

2. Explain the rationales in each procedures

Scientific and professional skills:

1. Display capabilities in the performance of procedures learned and skills acquired in the laboratory.

2. Utilize nursing process in the application of nursing procedures

General skills:

1. Develop the knowledge skills ,and attitude (KSA) in communication.

2. Apply correctly the learned concepts for personal growth and development

3. Perform basic procedures learned confidently
