Overview

This course provides opportunities for actual hospital experiences to ensure that competencies are developed in the nursing care management of clients with problems in oxygenation (Cardiovascular, Peripheral Vascular and Hematology) and endocrine.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1. Identify the role of the surgical unit preoperatively and postoperatively.

2. Discuss the principles of Aseptic Technique.

3. Describe the activities needed to prepare clients for surgery.

4. Determine the type of various physical assessment needed by the client in various situation.

5. List down actual nursing responsibilities and management of actual cases.

Mental skills:

1. Recognize critical areas when assessing preoperatively, intra-operatively and postoperatively

2. Prioritize nursing interventions in the perioperative care of a client.

3. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills and attitude in nursing care management to meet the specific needs of client.

Scientific and professional skills:

1. Applies critical thinking skills utilizing the nursing process in managing the client’s health needs.

2. Demonstrate competency in the performance of specific nursing procedures in perioperative period and on specific cases.

3. Records and document properly the data and pertinent information regarding patient care management

4. Demonstrate good communication skills and nurse patient relationship.

General skills:

1. Exhibit ability to deal with different kinds of client and other members of the health team in the nursing care management of different health illnesses.

2. Display teamwork with the surgical team and other health workers

3. Respond effectively to unexpected experience or emergency health situations.
