Overview

This course is designed to equip students with theories and concepts from simple to complex health problems and to assist the individual, family and community to promote mental health, to prevent or cope with the experience of mental illness and sufferings. It is also focused on the care of individuals with mental illness.

It is designed to develop self-awareness, therapeutic interaction, ability to apply scientific nursing care decisions and professional behavior in the care of client with various types of maladaptive patterns of behavior.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1. Define Psychiatric Nursing

2. Identify general criteria of Mental health and Mental Illness

3. Name common Mental disorders, manifestations, management and treatment

4. Identify treatment modalities and psychopharmacological treatment in Mental Disorder
