Overview

Actual application of the theories, principles and concepts of clinical nursing practice to groups of clients in varied settings to refine nursing skills in the chosen area of nursing specialization. This practicum experience focuses on the synthesis of previously gained knowledge and skills in the provision of advanced nursing care to individuals, families and communities. Emphasis is placed on management of clients within a clinical focus area.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1.To get acquainted with the physical set up and operating policies in the different areas in critical care

2.Discuss the different clinical disorders, it’s manifestations, treatment and nursing intervention of critically ill patients

3.Understand basic information of patients in doing physical assessment and recognize common abnormalities

Mental skills:

1.Understand the procedures and rationale for basic support of adult patients

2.Discuss/ review concepts in medical or surgical emergencies and other related entities

3.Identify the importance of pharmacology in dealing with critically ill patients

4.Identify patient’s care and management in caring for critically ill patients

5.Administer diligently emergency drugs for patient with immediate care

Scientific and professional skills:

1.Perform different diagnostic laboratory investigations with confidence and interpret results accurately

2.Utilize and apply the nursing process in assessing and managing health need

3.Apply learned knowledge and skills in imparting health teachings to client and family
