Overview

This course provides opportunities for actual hospital experiences to ensure that competencies are developed in the nursing care management of clients with problems in neurologic, eye, ear, nose, and throat, musculoskeletal and cellular aberration. This exposure also gives the Fourth year students opportunities to practice leadership roles and managerial abilities as they are given the chance to assume the role of a Head Nurse and as a Clinical Instructor.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1.Recall the nursing skills learned in preparation for clinical practice

2.Determine the various physical assessment needed by different clients of diverse situations.

3.Recognize nursing responsibilities related to standard nursing practice and values. 4.Apply nursing process to individual cases in the area: identifying signs and symptoms.application of appropriate nursing measures and treatment and evaluating the results of nursing care.

Mental skills:

1.Discuss individual cases found in the area: S/S. risk factors, diagnostic test, medical intervention as well as nursing measures done and health teachings given.

2.Formulate nursing diagnosis according to priority.

3.Identify preparations needed by clients for procedures and the rationale involved,

4.Analyze and use critical thinking in implementing all concepts of nursing practice especially watching assessment recognition, clinical reasoning and decision making

5.Relate core competencies to any situation during clinical duty and show confidence with mastery.

Scientific and professional skills:

1.Establish a good working relationship with the members of the health team and significant others.

2.Recognize the importance of referral system and team work.

3.Collaborate with other members of health team in the plan of care of the patient.

4.Demonstrate sense of responsibility , show readiness and competence

General skills:

1.Exhibit appreciation and value of nursing care to other members of health team.

2.Develop ability to deal with different kinds of clients and paramedical team in the care of clients with specific health needs or problems.

3.Demonstrate the ability to educate and assist clients in the promotion and maintenance of health.

4.Participate in the plan of care with other members of health team.

5.Present case study or presentation as scheduled.
