Overview

This course provides opportunities for actual hospital experiences to ensure that competencies are developed in the nursing care management of clients with problem in oxygenation (Cardiovascular, Peripheral Vascular and Hematology) and endocrine.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1.Develop the acquired knowledge and skills in performing nursing care normal maternal and newborn and clients with complications .

2.Recognize and understand the different clinical disorders, its manifestations, treatment and appropriate nursing interventions to client in various maternity wards.

3.Determine the different medical equipments/apparatus in the unit and understand its functions and usage.

4.Identify the information or data gathered from the client during nurse-patient interaction, when performing physical assessment. Recognize normal and identify abnormalities.

Mental skills:

1.Discuss individual cases (diagnosis) found in the unit; its signs and symptoms presented, risk factors, diagnostic test, medical and nursing management for the promotion of health and prevention of diseases.

2.Analyze accurate information during data collection and formulate nursing diagnosis to identify client’s problem.

3.Plan nursing care to meet the needs and promote optimal outcome for the client.

4.Provide necessary nursing interventions or nursing actions specific to client who has developed complications.

5.Evaluate outcomes for achievement and effectiveness of nursing care.

Scientific and professional skills:

1.Practice effective communication skills and establish good nurse – patient relationship.

2.Obtain comprehensive information needed for accurate assessment tools (IPPA), actual and potential problems, normal findings versus abnormal findings.

3.Maintain accurate documentation and recording of clients care and practice referrals if necessary.

4.Display confidence and perform nursing procedures using correct techniques.

General skills:

1.Exhibit appreciation and value of nursing care to other members of health team.

2.Develop ability to deal with different kinds of clients and paramedical team in the care of clinets with specific health needs or problems.

3.Demonstrate the ability to educate and assist clinets in the promotion and maintenance of health.

4.Participate in the plan of care with other members of health team.

5.Present case study or presentation as scheduled.
