Overview

The course is designed to orient students on the different aspects of providing learning experiences to help individuals and communities improve their health by increasing their knowledge and influencing their attitude. It prepares the student to become professionals possessing tools that will help them provide total patient care not only in the health care setting but in others as well.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1- Define key concepts to health education and learning.

2- Identify principles of health education and learning.

3- Trace historical development of health education in relation to nursing profession.

4- Identify the appropriate health education programs to meet the needs of specific groups.

Mental skills:

1- Discuss the aims and specific goals of health education.

2- Describe the relationship between health and human behavior.

3- Explain the teaching learning concepts.Discus the principles in disease causation.

4- Describe the behavioral, environmental, and genetic factors affecting human behavior.

5- Discuss the different teaching – learning strategies.

Scientific and professional skills:

1- Understand the roles and responsibilities of health education and promotion Professionals.

2- Identify the ethical considerations associated with planning, implementing, and evaluating health education programs.

3- Identify appropriate techniques utilized in health education.

4- Evaluate health education programs in Libya.

1- Prepare and propose health education program in a selected setting.

2- Conduct a field study of the proposed program in an appropriate setting

3- Evaluate the effectiveness of proposed health education program
