This course provides opportunities for actual hospital experiences to ensure that competencies are developed in the nursing care management of clients with problems in oxygenation (Respiratory), fluid, electrolyte and acid base balance, inflammatory process, immunologic reactions, infection, cellular aberrations, pain and stress.This course also include exposure of students in a wide variety of environments and specialties such as emergency department, trauma wards & intensive sub specialties of critical care nursing that include such areas as neonatal intensive care and adult intensive care units.
Intended learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:
1.To be acquainted with the different areas in the ICU physical set up2.Discuss the different medical disorders , it’s manifestations, treatment and nursing intervention in various wards and critical care units
3.Understand the basic information of patient in doing physical assessment and recognize it’s common abnormalities manifested
4.Determine the different hemodynamics monitoring apparatus or machines attached to a critically ill patients
Mental skills:
1.Understand the reasons and procedures applied to specific disorders and proper application of basic life support of infant, children and older adults2.Discuss and review basic medical/ surgical emergencies and other related entities
3.Identify and understand the importance of pharmacology to patient’s care and treatment
4.Discuss proper procedures related to disorders of different related diseases
Scientific and professional skills:
1.Practice effective communication techniques and establish good nurse-patient relationship2.Administer diligently the different emergency drugs given to client for immediate care
3.Perform different laboratory investigations with confidence and interpret it’s findings accurately
General skills:
1.Establish good working relationship to other members of the health team2.Ability to understand , respond develop compassion in the care of patients in the ICU
3.Develop a sense of responsibility in caring any type of patient
4.Respond to emergency situations professionally
