Overview

This course provides opportunities for actual hospital experiences to ensure that competencies are developed in the nursing care management of clients with problems in oxygenation (Cardiovascular, Peripheral Vascular and Hematology) and endocrine.This course enhances exposure of students in a wide variety of environments and sub specialties of critical care nursing that include such areas as neonatal intensive care, maternal intensive care, hemodialysis and adult medical/surgical intensive care units.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1.Develop acquired knowledge and skills in performing activities related to critical care

2.Recognize different nursing care and management given to clients in various clinical set-up

3.Understand the basic information of patient in doing physical assessment and recognize common abnormalities manifested

Mental skills:

1.Understand reasons and procedures for basic life support

2.Identify the importance of pharmacology to patient’s care and treatment

3.Discuss signs and symptoms related to specific conditions

4.Perform competently nursing procedures and develop mastery of artificial ventilation and cardiac compression

1.Practice effective communication techniques in dealing with patients
